Justin Pipe joined the Championship League Darts on Weds 26th September, as he and Mark Webster and Kevin Painter join the five players still in the group, as day 2 started play in the internet streamed PDC darts event, which has some £200,000 prize money to be won.
All games are the best of 11 legs. Prize Money is paid at £50 per leg in the round robin group stage, with prize money rising to £100 per leg in the play-offs. The Group Two champion will progress to the Winners Group on November 1, with the bottom two players from the league table eliminated, and the other five players progressing to play in Group Three.
UPDATE: Justin wins his first match against Kevin Painter 6-3 with a 96 average, including 4x 180’s. The Force was 3-0 down before turning on the afterburners and winning the next 6 legs in a row.
UPDATE: Justin wins his next two matches for 3 out of 3, and he may be safe outside the ‘relegation’ places now (6 points and a good leg difference should make it safe, but 2 more points would pretty much assure it), so if he doesn’t go through as winner, he hopefully will be back tomorrow – keep em crossed!
UPDATE: Justin’s 4th win against Webster means he makes the semi finals later today – he’s still got a game vs. Phil Taylor to play before that! In his game vs Jenkins, Justin hit back to back 12 darters, both with 121 checkouts!
UPDATE: In the final, Phil at 5-4 up started on his throw with a 180.. but Justin managed to still break the throw to take it to a deciding leg!
JUSTIN WINS! Justin has won through to the finals of the Champion League Darts, after beating Phil Taylor in a very close and tense final in group 2. Justin can take a well earned break from the competition now – and get ready for the Grand Prix!
“It’s a fantastic debut and I’m really pleased – I couldn’t be happier,” said Pipe. “My initial aim was just to make the cut, and when I knew I was in the semi-finals I just wanted to push on.
The game Terry and I had in the league stage was really good, so it was good to beat him and then to beat Phil in the final is fantastic, so I’m chuffed.
I’ll be able to watch the remaining groups with interest and there’s no pressure on me now. I can come back for the final day and I know what it’s going to be like. I’ll prepare really well for the Winners Group, and hopefully do well in that.” – Justin Pipe.
Over the course of the day, Justin hit: 96.37 average, 110 tons, 71×140’s and 26x 180’s, with 48 doubles hit – all in a days work!
